The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a new strain of virus first detected in Wuhan, China in 2019.

COVID-19 is known to target a person’s respiratory system. Infected patients may exhibit symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, and in some cases, muscle pain and sore throat. Some patients may also be asymptomatic.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) has characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic due to the exponential increase of the number of cases in more than 100 countries.

On March 16, 2020. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte placed the entire Philippines under a State of Calamity amid the threats posed by COVID-19.

PH actual testing capacity for Covid-19 up by 74%: Galvez

National Action Plan on COVID-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said that the country’s actual testing capacity has increased by 74 percent because more COVID-19 laboratories are being accredited and established nationwide. Galvez added that there are now 30 testing centers in the country, and more testing laboratories are expected to be accredited.

ReliefAgad launched for faster aid distribution

ReliefAgad is a new online platform launched by the government to hasten the distribution of the cash aids under the Social Amelioration Program. Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Assistant Secretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic announced the availability of the platform which can be accessed at reliefagad.ph. The said platform would enable the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and LGUs to quickly gather data about the beneficiaries and deliver the cash aid faster to qualified recipients.

Latest IATF resolution provides MECQ implementation details
