The Palace said on Thursday that the country is not yet in its second wave of COVID-19 infections. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. emphasized that the first wave, which peaked around March with the highest number of cases reported, is still ongoing.

He added that for infections to be considered to be in the second wave, there should be an increase in the number of incidence of community acquired transmission over a period of time. Roque also reiterated President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for cooperation to the public to prevent a second wave of COVID-19 infections.

He stressed that what is important is that these ‘waves’ are read or interpreted properly so that the government can act and make appropriate responses based on them.
