PRICE FREEZE FAQs
– Section 6 of the Price Act (RA 7581) states that price freeze is automatically in effect whenever there is a declaration of a state of emergency, calamity, or other similar conditions.
The declaration of a state of public health emergency (Proclamation no. 922) throughout the country triggered the implementation of a nationwide freeze price.
– Price freeze for all basic goods is in effect of 60 days from date of declaration of a state of emergency, calamity, or other similar conditions unless sooner lifted by the President.
Exception to this are prices of household kerosene and LPG which are frozen for 15 days only.
– Yes, this is possible. If basic goods are sold at prices lower than the SRP then, the prevailing prices would naturally be lower.
– No. The price freeze list may vary per province, municipality or region since the prevailing prices of basic goods may be different in these areas.
It covers all basic necessities as enumerated in the Price Act, as amended by RA 10623.
– During price freeze, prices of basic necessities are frozen at their latest prevailing prices prior the declaration of a state of emergency, calamity, or other similar conditions.
A prevailing price is the most common price of a product in an area.
